THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ACCRA TRANSPORT
A private bus company is operative in Ghana ever since the The Ominibus Service Authority (OSA) started their operations in the year 1927. The OSA contributed a lot to the Ghanaian society in terms of public transport; however, amongst other companies, the OSA assets have been put into divestiture in 1995.
Accra Transport was conceived as an idea of the Honorable President Kufour who spoke of the need of introducing a private and affordable Transit Bus system in the cities of Ghana at his inauguration speech on January 7th 2001.
Accra Transport was established in October 2003, with MR THOMAS BENSON having 45%, the remaining 55% being held by private investors.

GOIL
Prudential Bank
By law Accra Transport is a private company but in practice Accra Transport aims to meet the public interest. Accra Transport can moreover be labeled as a private – public initiative that aims to operate an effective and affordable transport system in an economical sustainable way.
